Elections

The September 14, 1999 Election

The Iowa City Community School District Board has seven members, each of whom serve three year terms. Elections are held once a year in September. Two members are elected each year. Every third year three are elected. 1999 was such a year. There were six candidates, including two incumbents, for the three positions. The Johnson County Auditor, Tom Slockett, has created a very useful page -- actually a collection of pages -- regarding this election. It includes the candidates' names and contact information, location of the school board polling places (which are different from the general election polls), sample ballots, information about registration and early voting, and so forth. Check it out. The results of the 1999 school board election are also available from the Auditor's site (go to "History and Statistics" and then select September 14, 1999).

The 1998 Election

Nicholas Johnson and Matt Goodlaxson were elected to the School Board in an election held Tuesday, September 8, 1998.  During July and August 1998 Nick Johnson maintained a campaign Web page which has been retained as a matter of historical record.  If you are interested in the details of the 1998 election returns, they are available from the main site of the Johnson County, Iowa, Auditor, Tom Slockett.

(Note: Because the individualized HotBot search feature searches only domains, not pages, the following had to be structured to search the entirety of http://soli.inav.net; however, by beginning the search string with "Nicholas Johnson" (as already inserted) it will only find pages that contain "Nicholas" plus "Johnson" plus whatever search terms you put in. This will narrow, and thereby speed, your search. I wish to acknowledge, and thank, Internet Navigator's Webmaster Daniel Garcia for the creativity of this solution. -- N.J.)
