Reading Assignments
NOTE: (1) First, make sure you read carefully the "Syllabus" -- especially the first section, "Purpose, Orientation and Format of Course."
(2) Then see, "Readings for First Weeks' Overview."
(3) If it was not assigned or otherwise brought to your attention in a prior class, read the instructor's "So You Want to Be a Lawyer: A Play in Four Acts". There's more to becoming a successful professional sports law lawyer than legal knowledge and analytical ability. (As Southwest Airlines puts it, "We hire for attitude and train for skills.") This easy read gives you some insight into what is going to be expected of you by the instructor for this class -- as well as, he believes, by the lawyers with whom you soon will be working. -- N.J., December 14, 2011; December 19; January 3, 2012; Jan. 9, 12, 14, 26; February 25.
The first two to four class sessions we will do an overview of the course and casebook to give you a sense of the relatively broad sweep of issues and material contained within "Sports Law." See below. . . .
The order in which material is covered will vary from that in the book. We will average, with variations, approximately 20 pages per hour (30 per 1-1/2 hour class session), for 42 60-minute classroom hours (28 meetings during 14 weeks).
NOTE:
The
readings for the first weeks' sessions of the semester are found on another
Web site, "Readings
for First Weeks' Overview."
