Having lived in Cedar Rapids, except for military service, most of my 60 years, I feel I can offer this about my hometown. The props change continuously, but the play always remains the same. Cedar Rapids has always had a closed attitude.

If itís a load of fun, donít bring your venue here. Cedar Rapids will run you out. Think of what the Wilson area would look like had Cedar Rapids not run out the gambling venue. The Martin Marietta sand pits would make a wonderful venue of beaches, fishing, canoeing. Sorry, not in Cedar Rapids. That would not be fun.

So as the streetscapes change and buildings fall and rise, the play will only stay the same.

To former Cedar Rapids Downtown District Director Jamie Licko, good luck on your new venture. You didnít stand a chance here because you had the very thing you were trying to promote against you.

Well, I see itís time for sleep, which is what works best in Cedar Rapids. The Slumber Capital of the World.
