Coralville Plan Destroys Homes

Regarding "Turnkey plan offers benefits to Coralville" (Feb. 10), I feel city councilors there should go ahead and forget both the hotel and conference center and the rain forest while they still can. Edgewater is beautiful and a great place to have a family, play softball and more -- only to be destroyed by a Marriott hotel and conference center.

I can't imagine that the people of Coralville would be too happy with a new tax to support this Marriott hotel and conference center. The city of Coralville must be thinking once the rain forest and Marriott hotel and conference center is built, it will be like Walt Disney World, and everyone far and near will want to check it out.

Well, I have news for the city of Coralville: People are not going to go out of their way to get off the interstate to see something like this. These attractions are nothing special, and usually people driving through Iowa have another destination in mind. The only reason people will stop is to get gas so they can continue to their destination.
